Today
I picked up my first Israeli bank card from Bank Hapoalim, yeah! Yaffa and I took a bus to go to a
store, something like a Home Depot, where she bought a few lights for her
apartment building. Being our last day together, I treated her to a light falafel
lunch, and then bought her flowers. At
6:30pm, we parted, and schlepping my belongings I made my way to Shula’s home
in Tel Aviv.
Shula
greeted me warmly, and we spent a bit of time together discussing household
items. To my surprise, she insisted that I sleep in her bedroom, as she was
about to leave for a trip. I thought of this as a generous deed, even though I
wasn’t comfortable taking her bed, so to speak. I sensed that she is not
attached to things, and it did not matter to her to sleep in the guest room. I
had no choice but accept this gracious gift of trust and good will.
