Tuesday, March 29 - My First New York Experience

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

I made my journey to Israel aboard ElAl. After landing in New York, Olim-to-be gathered at the Nefesh B’Nefesh station in front of the ElAl counter. In no time I spotted the Jewish crowd, young and old, secular and religious, married and single, all 25 individuals making Aliyah! Each party was dealt with surprising efficiency and expertise from the NBN staff, and in less that one hour I had gone through all check-in procedures. I felt lighter without my luggage, and realized that my valuables turned out to be also my burden. At the gate I met some folks wanting to connect with me, yet I felt the need to be alone. The boarding call came quickly, after a quick bite and an attempt to start this blog.
The flight was half full, and to my good fortune I got a hold of a three-seat row all to myself, allowing me to spread out and have a nap. Flying aboard ElAl was a great experience. The young, bold and beautiful crew impressed me with their efficiency and politeness. The flight to Israel was a breeze. For me, flying feels like activating the pause button of my life, sort of a floating time that allows me to gain perspective and reflection, and in this case, a perfect parenthesis in my long-awaited journey.
